World Health Organization: Final Report: Commission on Social Determinants of Health

This report explains how social justice is a matter of life and death. It affects the way people live, their consequent chance of illness, and their risk of premature death. Just as life expectancy and good health continue to increase in some parts of the world, they fail to improve in others.

"but the real drama is that health follows the social gradient. Jimmy at the bottom, with the most adverse social conditions, has the worst health. But as one moves up the social scale, and social conditions improve progressively, health improves"
